11th of October, 11am-4pm

Many grape varieties have an official day to celebrate their uniqueness and Pinotage is not an exception. Its special day is on the 10th of October!

Pinotage is rare to see planted outside South Africa. There are currently no more than ten vineyards in Australia growing this grape and Topper´s Mountain is one of them. It´s another successful result of our obsessive focus on rare varieties and constant search for the right grapes to fit our terroir.

To celebrate Pinotage day Topper’s Mountain cellar door will be open on Sunday 11th of October from 11am to 4pm. Current release of our Pinotage Viognier will be on pour together with a couple of museum vintages. All accompanied with South African snacks.

Please join us at our vineyard anytime between 11am – 4pm.

Of course, there will also be other Topper´s wines to taste!!

If you decide to come and enjoy this special day with us please click on ´GOING´ on the event profile so we have a better idea on the numbers.

We are a child and dog friendly vineyard!

Did you know?

Pinotage is a cross between Burgundian variety Pinot Noir and Southern Rhone variety Cinsualt (which you can often find in Provence rose).

Albeit cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault it doesn´t taste like any of those two.

Pinotage was created by South African professor Abraham Perold in 1925 to find a hardier and more reliable alternative to Pinot Noir.

Pinotage is a fantastic match to all sorts of charred meats thanks to its dark berry and ´baked earth´ characters.

Come to visit us on Sunday to hear and taste the full story!
