In September we released our whites from the 2021 vintage (see more HERE) which seems to be one of our best white line up in years. Now there’s time release some exciting reds like Nebbiolo 2017 & Tannat 2016 as well as new vintage of our traditional method sparkling Pinot Noir/Chardonnay. All these wines are in a great shape and ready to drink while they will also benefit from some cellaring too.

There’s a pre-Christmas surprise too: a re-release of our fortified Vintage Touriga 2010 with a hand painted label!

PINOT NOIR CHARDONNAY M.T. BRUT NATURE

Our 2017 Methode Traditionelle Brut Nature is made from 85% Pinot Noir and 15% Chardonnay which can be easily detected by the salmon hue. 2017 was a cooler vintage providing this wine with fresh flavours of dark cherries, black berries and hints of liquorice as well as savoury herbal notes. All carried by smooth mousse beautifully combined with refreshing yet soft acidity.

Brut Nature means that we decided not to add any dosage to retain the sweet & savoury dry finish with a cherry liquor & dried raspberries like aftertaste. Extended 60 months long aging on the lees added a creamy texture and hint of dark bread crust. This is a serious gastronomic sparkling wine. Try it with steak tartare to experience the ultimate sparkling wine & food pairing.

Golden colour, really pretty to look at. Scents of honey, nougat, dried apple, candied ginger. Lovely stuff. Soft and creamy in texture with some neat, saline minerally crunch, good hiss of tight bubbles, nutty savouriness in spades here with some faint cherry juice and green apple juice going on. Complex, intriguing, super minerally yeasty style. Love it.

NEBBIOLO 2017

Nebbiolo is our soft spot variety. Moody and finicky to grow & needs long experience in the winery but when it’s good then it’s great! Distinctive aromas of tar, rose hips, sour cherries, dark cherries, liquorice with a hint of flint. Juicy and fresh on the palate yet with a strong backbone braced by high acidity and succulent smooth tannins. Cherries, currants and cranberries are accompanied by liquorice, black pepper and slight earthiness. Long and tight finish. Wine with considerable ageing potential.

I have followed the evolution of this cuvée for a time, enjoying the small shifts in style and most of all, the better tannin management and concentration that seem to have come with lower yields and better vineyard supervision. A bit hot but make no mistake: it IS inimitably Nebbiolo. Good Nebbiolo, too. Ned Goodwin MW on 2016 vintage

TANNAT 16

We recently tasted the wine with a French sommelier in a renowned Sydney restaurant & wine bar and he was surprised by how much it reminded him of classic Tannats from Madiran. Now that was a compliment! Deep, but still bright crimson-purple on the rim; it is thickly packed with dark/black fruits, but with surprisingly soft tannins. This wine will age magnificently but it is ready to deliver now.

Deep, dark red colour. An imposing and complex bouquet of raisins and aniseed, black cherries and darkest berries. Mouth-coating when sipped, hitting every corner and laneway of the palate. Tannins are chewy and the finish driven by measured acidity. Built for a medium-rare T-Bone.

VINTAGE TINTA RORIZ 2010

One of long time cellar door favourite is back! This time with a new yet very old school design. Hand painting vintage releases is still widely used in famous Portuguese fortified wine region like Douro Valley or Madeira.

People almost forgot how good port style wines can be and it is a shame. Our vintage Tinta Roriz is fresh and sweet on the nose with dominating aromas of strawberry jam, blueberries, roasted walnuts, roasted almonds and hint of coffee. Warm and juicy flavours on the palate are balanced by lifted acidity making this fortified wine long, elegant and very easy to drink. Flavours – as it should be – are intensive, full of sour cherries, strawberries and plum jam, prunes, roasted walnuts, toffee, coffee bean and roasted almonds. The wine spent 9 years in old barrel to develop complex aromatic profile and sensationally silky texture.

Garnet red colour with tawny edges. A bright and expressive nose, spirit is clean: roasted nuts, caramel, coffee beans and muscaty high notes. Luscious and fresh, just enough spice and sinew, praline and strawberry jam. It’s a terrific style. Needs a late-night cheese plate.
